Team Profile: Ted Kasahara
Ted joined Alliance Memory in 2014 as Country Manager, Japan. Located in Tokyo, he is responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with key distributors throughout the country, while creating sales promotions to attract new customers. Previously, he served in a variety of roles in the electronics manufacturing industry. In his free time, Ted enjoys watching sports, including sumo wrestling, baseball, and rugby.

As Q3 2022 comes to a close, the best thing that can be said about current market conditions is that they’re unsettled. The Ukraine war, various material and labor shortages, and general uncertainty about the economy are all factors making the market nervous. Even so, there is plenty of good news to report for Alliance Memory. We had our best month ever in June, and our best POS month ever for a leading distributor in July. And we are gaining even more market share for legacy products as suppliers continue to EOL devices like SRAMs, SDRAMs, and DDR1 and DDR2 SDRAMs. Even DDR3 SDRAMs are becoming legacy devices, and the uncertainty of their supply has resulted in many customers qualifying Alliance solutions into their designs. Furthermore, new products like DDR4 SDRAMs and eMMCs are adding to our ever-growing portfolio of memory solutions, and we will soon be introducing even more Flash products. Our inventory and competitive pricing continue to carry us through this current cyclical market, and as always, we’re there to support our customers’ requirements.

For solid-state storage in consumer, industrial, and networking applications, Alliance Memory’s 4GB and 8GB embedded multi-media card (eMMC) solutions each integrate NAND flash memory with an eMMC controller and flash transition layer (FTL) management software in a single 11.5 mm by 13 mm 153-ball FBGA package. Compliant with the JEDEC eMMC v5.1 industry standard, the eMMCs support a wide range of features, from boot operation to high-speed HS200 and HS400 modes.
With low-voltage operation of 1.1V and 0.6V, respectively, Alliance Memory’s LPDDR4 and LPDDR4x devices increase battery life in portable electronics and IoT devices utilizing AI and 5G technologies. Providing increased efficiency for advanced audio and high-resolution video in embedded applications, the low-power SDRAMs deliver fast clock speeds of 1.6GHz for extremely high transfer rates of 3.2Gbps. For automotive applications, the AEC-Q100 qualified devices operate over a temperature range of -40°C to +105°C.
Alliance Memory’s AS5F series of 1.8V to 3V SPI NAND flash products offers densities from 1Gb to 8Gb and high-speed clock frequencies up to 120MHz for automotive, industrial, communications, and consumer electronic markets. Providing reliable, long-term performance, the devices feature more than 60,000 program/erase cycles, offer 10-year data retention, and support standard, dual, and quad SPI operation. With their enhanced performance, the flash products meet the requirements for multimedia data storage applications and AI implementation.

The devices simplify designs for fast and easy system integration in a wide range of products, while saving space by eliminating the need for an external controller. 
Alliance Memory has appointed Richard Fobbs to the position of warehouse / logistics executive. In this role, he will be responsible for managing inventory, while assisting with shipping and packing, in our distribution center. A childhood friend of President David Bagby, Richard has watched Alliance Memory grow over the years into a leader in the memory space and is excited to join the company after his recent retirement from a 20-year career in law enforcement. He attended the University of Oregon and College of San Mateo and has previously served as a director and instructor for a California College criminal justice program.
Gafie Huang has joined Alliance Memory as its new web applications database manager. She brings nearly 20 years of experience working with web applications to the company, including serving as web applications project manager for Skype and Zoom and helping Nu Skin and other companies develop web applications and implement CMS systems. In her new role, Gafie will be responsible for maintaining and managing Alliance Memory’s website and database.
At the end of last year, we were feeling a lot of optimism about 2022, and judging by what we’ve seen so far it looks like this is going to be another stellar year. We had a record January for sales, and I believe we’re going to have a record Q1. Our planned strategy to increase our inventory is succeeding, even though we continue to have pockets of individual issues around certain package types. The big picture, however, is that we’re reducing lead times for our customers, and we’re continuing to pick up market share. From Europe to the U.S. to Asia, we’re seeing good strength in all our markets.
Alliance Memory has introduced a new line of 3V multiple input/output serial NOR flash memory products designed to provide supply continuity for Micron Technology customers utilizing discontinued N25Q series devices. Offering support for single, dual, and quad SPI modes, the AS25F series combines fast read performance with fast program and erase times in 8-pin SOP Wide Body (209mils) and 8L WSON (6x5mm) packages. 
Meet Ramesh Babu Varadharajan. Ram joined Alliance Memory in 2019, bringing over 20 years of experience in the semiconductor industry to his dual role of Director of Central Engineering and Country Manager, India Sales. Located in Bangalore — The Silicon Valley of India — Ram is responsible for new product introductions, applications, and quality for Alliance Memory’s SRAM, DRAM, and Flash business units, while maintaining the company’s strong customer base in the country. His favorite thing about working at Alliance Memory: “I love working with such smart and collaborative teams, and the company’s honest and transparent management style. It all adds up to better products for our customers.”
Alliance Memory has made a major commitment to meeting our customers’ legacy Micron flash component needs, and with the stock we’re going to receive now through the end of the year, we expect to be able to support our customers through 2022 and beyond. At a time when so many suppliers can’t take an order — much less ship — in 2021, Alliance Memory customers can count on us to have, in stock, a very wide range of the Micron flash products they need right now. 
We’re delighted to announce the appointment of Alistair Jones as Alliance Memory’s regional sales manager for Northern Europe. In his new role, he’s working closely with our distribution partners to expand our sales coverage in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and the Baltics. Alistair has had a distinguished career in the semiconductor industry, in which he has displayed a drive for excellence across a range of sales, country, and regional management roles. 
In a wide-ranging interview with Barbara Jorgensen, our President and CEO David Bagby talked about how Alliance Memory has succeeded for our customers as a bright spot in the unsettled DRAM market. Unlike many of our competitors, our lead times are in many cases going down, thanks to a longstanding policy of maintaining inventory. “If you look at our portfolio and our product lineup, our part number offerings include more densities, more organizations, more speeds and more temperature ranges than most of our competitors,” David said. 
Alliance Memory has strengthened its relationship with RS Components with a new global distribution deal. Under the agreement, RS customers around the world will have access to the complete portfolio of Alliance Memory products — covering storage capacities from 64kb through to 8Gb. 
To expand Alliance Memory’s sales coverage in Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, and Slovakia, we’ve appointed Viorel Toadere as our regional manager for Eastern Europe. Viorel brings over 25 years of experience in the electronics manufacturing industry to Alliance Memory, specializing in semiconductors. 
Our headquarters facilities in Kirkland, Washington, which we occupied at the beginning of 2020, have received ISO 9001:2015 certification. Alliance Memory’s facilities, beginning with our former headquarters in the San Francisco Bay Area, have been ISO 9001-certified since 2009.
